About the Medium:
A painter loves paint. Working with Plutonium Spray Paint and forms is engaging, unpredictable, and the most demanding compositional work I have ever done. This spray paint allows remarkable fluidity between negative and positive space in the way that I use the forms. I like to image what Matisse might have done with spray paints.
When I teach students what I have learned about using spray paint, I first slow them down. This is counter-intuitive considering how quickly the color is applied. The paint and the forms present an opposition, something like a game of chess, and time is required to think about what just happened and how it will affect what happens next.
